The role of state driver licensing staff in improving older driver safety

Older drivers renewing their licenses present the opportunity for counter staff workers to ensure that the driver is safe to operate a vehicle. Additionally, anyone, including family members, law enforcement officers, and medical professionals, may refer an older driver for driver evaluation if they think the driver is at risk. By accessing the following knowledge, tools, and resources to improve older driver safety, you can have a positive effect on your communities. For example:

  • Learn the signs for when an older driver may be at risk.
  • Refer older drivers and their family members/caregivers to ChORUS to obtain information about how they can plan for safe mobility in their community.
  • Provide ChORUS handouts to older drivers to plan for safe mobility – whether driving or not.
